Sears Houses
|
Two years ago, Association Member Helen Foley brought in a set of blue prints for a Sears mail-order house. It was built for Riley Parsons according to the plans - so a search began to locate the building. Originally located on Rt. 28, the Parson's house was moved to North St. when Tim Noonan expanded the Water Safari Park to include Calypso Cove. Over the past year, nearly a dozen mail-order houses have been located, thanks to the cooperation of their present and formal owners. Several others in the village of Old Forge resemble Sears homes pictured in the National Historic Register's book used for our research entitled "Mail-Order Houses by Sears Roebuck". There are MANY more in the Village today that are similar to plans in this book. If you think you have a kit-house, contact the Historical at 315 369-3838 and we can help you with your research. |
