1945 Marks &
Wilcox Customers
The War Years - Walter Marks & Charles Wilcox owned a fuel storage
business in Old Forge for many years. They also operated the Pickle Boat on the
Fulton Chain, a floating grocery store that delivered groceries to the docks of
camps and hotels. The following list gives a rather compressive idea of
the year-round fuel customers in the Old Forge region at a time when many
families left to find work in the Mohawk Valley or went to live with loved ones
when the head of a household entered the military service. The local newspaper -
"The Adirondack Arrow" was never archived or microfilmed during
1942-1947.
